Preview: Arts Centre Washington’s Spring 2015 Season

Fabulous Theatre Coming
To Washington in 2015

Kicking and Screaming
Arts Centre Washington’s Spring 2015 season is packed full of theatre, music, dance, film and exhibitions to please all tastes. Expect dance extravaganzas, one man shows, a student take over and a girl with extremely long hair!!!  Oh yes! And a whole lot more!

Broke
The theatre programme focuses on life’s highs and lows whether it be the time bomb of a new baby in ‘Kicking and Screaming’, our struggle to pay the bills in ‘Broke’or sibling rivalry in ‘Jumping Puddles’– all told with humour and poignancy.

Odyssey
One of the highlights of the Spring drama season has to be Theatre Ad Infinitum’s exciting rendition of Homer’s ‘Odyssey’. Performed by one actor, over one hour this award winning performance has to been seen to be believed.

Whatever the Weather
As ever the centre has a great offer of fantastic theatre for children and families, who can learn all about the elements in the February half term show ‘Whatever the Weather’, enjoy food, music and puppets in ‘Chicken Licken’ and see the timeless story of ‘Rapunzel’and her very long hair!

Chicken Licken
In May The University of Sunderland’s Drama students take over the theatre for the month long ‘Sunfest’.  Shakespeare and Aeschylus will be on the menu alongside more modern plays such as Caryl Churchill’s ‘Top Girls’ and ‘Cloud 9’.

Patrick Monahan
Stand Up Comedy comes in the guise of two returning favourites.  First up Patrick Monahan presents his ‘Adventures In Monahan Land’. Renowned for his playful audience interaction, clean material and HUGs, Patrick has recently been seen on ITV’s ‘Splash!’ ‘Fake Reaction’, ‘Show Me The Funny’ and ’Celebrity Squares’.

Lewis Schaffer
Another arts centre favourite stand up is acclaimed New York comic Lewis Schaffer who is still ‘Free Until Famous’!  There is no admission charge to see this hilariously contentious comic you are only asked to pay at the end if you have laughed!

Rapunzel
Young dancers will be strutting their stuff in the fantastic ‘Pulse’ dance showcase and Young Artists can show off their talent as part of the ‘Sunderland Young Achievers Youth Arts Exhibition’.

Odyssey
Live music is also in plentiful supply.  Look out for the raw valve driven melodic noise of Washington’s own ‘Zeerox’ who play Hothouse, which is organised in conjunction with The Bunker.  The arts centre is also very proud to be home to the award winning Davy Lamp Folk Club every Saturday night whose upcoming acts include The Broonzies, Rallion, The Keelers plus many more.
