Preview: Little Shop of Horrors at Newcastle Tyne Theatre

 Tyne Theatre Productions return!

Little Shop of Horrors
Newcastle Tyne Theatre & Opera House
Thursday 9th – Saturday 11th March 2017

After the recent success of Oklahoma! in November 2016, which followed on from previous successes Sweeney Todd in March 2016 and The Pirates of Penzance in September 2015, we are thrilled to announce that Tyne Theatre Productions will return in March 2017 with Little Shop of Horrors.

This hilarious, kooky musical follows a down-and out skid row floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant, Audrey II, with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon Audrey II grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950's sci-fi movies has become a house-hold name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Charming and tuneful with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Little Shop of Horrors never fails to entertain.

Tyne Theatre Productions is part of Tyne Theatre and Opera House Preservation Trust (Charity Number 1120746).  Funds raised from this performance will contribute to the preservation and future restoration of the Grade 1 listed Victorian Opera House.

Joanne Johnson, Director of Tyne Theatre & Opera House says: “I’m thrilled with the ongoing success of Tyne Theatre Productions and the wonderful shows they have produced to raise funds for our Grade 1 listed theatre. It couldn’t be done without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. I’m very excited that they will be staging Little Shop of Horrors as their next production, it’s such a youthful and kitschy show that appeals to all ages, and it’s bound to be lots of fun!”
