Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and cult optimist is back on the road  with her most personal show to date about love, family and being as outdoorsy as a bear.

In her seventh nationwide tour and with a new niece in the picture, Josie reflects on her own childhood and the resilience of an older sister. She had never really truly known heartbreak until now, and she is using this  experience to change her ways; to be more patient, to work out what she really wants and to become a better person. This is truly her most heartfelt, honest and revealing material, but don’t fret - Nigel Farage and Nick Clegg still get a mention…

In her last Fringe appearance in 2012, Josie received her third Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination, and at this year’s festival she collected more stars than a small solar system and was officially cited the best reviewed comedy show. Throwing aside the whimsical reputation that she had become known for, a new, more politically aware and socially conscious comedian had emerged and captivated the comedy industry in a totally different way.

Josie is renowned for writing about what she cares about and, although there has more recently been a political underlying to her material, she always has the ability to make her shows friendly and silly. As many reviewers point out, you cannot help but come away from her shows hoping to become her best friend.

In addition to her numerous DVD releases, TV appearances, sell-out tours, charity benefits and a co-host slot on BBC Radio 6 Music,  Josie started an ongoing project in 2011 called the Alternative Reality Tour; an anti-cuts, pro-youth, no-profit performance in a bid to fight for social justice and support public art. They even bring blankets in case it’s cold. She runs a monthly club night in London, The Lost Treasures of the Black Heart, which celebrates the world’s unsung heroes and has since been turned into a podcast. She was recently nominated for a Radio Academy Award for her adventurous short documentaries Short Cuts on Radio 4, earned a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award nomination for her two short feature films, Let’s Go Swimming and Romance and Adventure, and is co-founder of the Arts Emergency Service, a charity which aims to support students from underprivileged backgrounds who wish to study arts degrees. Her showcase for adventurous documentaries, Short Cuts, can currently be heard on Radio 4 on Tuesdays at 3pm.

Preview: Sod The Tories with John Scott at Newcastle Stand

The Stand Comedy Club's Topical Panel Show Reaches It's 1st Birthday

Sod the Tories (And Have A Nice Week) is a topical panel show with an unashamedly leftist anti-establishment USP.
The original show format was devised by show host John Scott after he worked on a project with BBC North giving guidance in developing panel shows. The final outcome he fully understands wouldn’t be of much use to the mainstream media but that was the whole point of the project.
For around three years now John had been writing stand up material of a dissident political nature that he knew would never really work well on regular comedy club audiences. So he devised the Sod the Tories show as an outlet for such ideas.
The show has run for a year now and has a popular podcast which is hosted by northern comedy website Giggle Beats.
Over that time John has recruited the cream of North East comedy talent to work alongside him. Many of the participants prior to taking part in the show had never considered writing political comedy.
Later in August this year John is doing a youth/young persons version of the show in cooperation with Newcastle’ Live Theatre company called #Mouthingoff.
Our host feels it’s vitally important that shows of this nature should exist. It’s of his personal opinion that comedy has become anodyne and toothless over recent years and this show is an antidote to that.
Having grown up in a mining town under Thatcher John never thought he would see a day where he would live under a government  that he felt was worse than hers…until this despicable coalition came to power.

Outwith Sod the Tories…
John has received many plaudits as a solo and sketch comedy performer. In 2012 he won £12,000 pounds at the Edinburgh Festival Take The Mic competition. The biggest cash prize ever awarded at the Fringe.
Joining John on July 28th are Sarah Ledger, John Gibson, Lee Kyle, Nick Cranston and resident rapper Mr Stuart Robertson
PRESS.
“Among the Top 5 comedians emerging from Scotland.” The Observer.
“Confidently told hilarious tales of class-based woe, nothing missed the mark in a superb set where every story was expertly crafted before being subverted with a killer punch line. After practicing comedy for five arduous years, expect to see his name somewhere big very soon.” The List.
“A genuinely gifted comedian.” The Skinny.

‘GOOD NEWS’ STAR HEADLINES TYNESIDE COMEDY QUIZ
Ray Peacock
One of the stars of Russell Howard's hit BBC Three series, Russell Howard’s Good News, is on his way to Tyneside this summer.
Prolific stand-up comedian Ray Peacock will headline the next Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz night at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle on Sunday 6 July.
Here is a link to Ray in action YouTube clip
The show, which runs every first Sunday at the popular High Bridge venue, combines stand-up with a traditional pub quiz, as question master and comedian Lee Kyle puts your comedy knowledge to the test.

And Peacock, who has made an unprecedented TWO appearances on Russell Howard’s popular TV show, will round off the night with a short preview of his latest stand-up show, Here Comes Trouble.
Giggle Beats editor Andrew Dipper said: "I've been an avid follower of Ray's work for as long as I've watched live comedy, so I'm absolutely delighted that he's agreed to join us in July.
"With a chance to win some incredible prizes and watch stand-up from amazing acts like Ray you'll struggle to find a better value night out in town."
A prolific writer and comic performer, Ray came to prominence in the Big and Daftcomedy trio, which culminated in three consecutive years of sell-out Edinburgh Fringe shows and their own series for the BBC's PlayUK, Terrorville.
In 2007 Ray presented The Ray Peacock Podcast on iTunes, alongside Raji James and Ed Gamble, and it was pretty brilliant.
The show ran for four series and a number of live shows before he rejoined Gamble in 2009 for the critically-acclaimed Peacock & Gamble Podcast. The Guardian newspaper said the show was "35 minutes of pure gold."
Ray is also an in-demand actor, with credits on hit TV shows including Doctor Who, Skins, Doctors and Harry Hill's TV Burp amongst others, and a popular warm-up act on the likes of Miranda, The Graham Norton Show and Not Going Out.
Tickets for the show, priced £3, can be reserved by calling The Stand Comedy Club box office on 0844 693 3336.
Doors open at 6.30pm and the quiz starts at 7pm.
Prizes for July include a three-course meal for two at The Stand's delicious bistro, tickets to some of the best comedy shows in Newcastle, top comedy merchandise courtesy of Ideal makers Baby Cow Productions and more.
