Live Theatre currently has two productions to prick ones conscience: Wet House on the main stage and Alphabetti Theatre’s How did I get to this point? in the intimate studio theatre.  The Rowntree Foundation have stated that most us of are just two pay checks from homelessness and yet we may be guilty of not giving the matter a second thought.

As the audience enter they are asked to answer a question about homelessness such as Where do they get their sleeping bags from?The studio is set up in the round and sat in centre stage Amy Foley and Ali Pritchard were ready to spring into action.  The production features audience and public reaction to issues of homelessness coupled with the tales from interviews with those affected. The addition of comments made in incident books adds the closest thing to light relief. 

The actors do a great job of drawing the audience in to question their own belief structure. By the time Pip Chamberlin crashes into view with his hammer one has to consider the fine line between keeping that roof over ones head and losing it.

This is a production that creates more questions than answers.  An unsentimental journey which probes our values as a society – should we do more? Under Ben Dickenson’s direction Alphabetti have delivered a timely reminder of the need for society.

Brilliant, moving, thought provoking, unsettling & sympathetic – this should be compulsory viewing for the Daily Mail reader.

Strange things have been happening in one of Newcastle's well loved pubs. Upstairs at The Dog & Parrot is Newcastle upon Tyne’s premier fringe performance space hosting a variety of different events. The space was taken over by the Alphabetti in February 2013 and with the help of the owners we transformed a dark, shabby room above a pub into a cosy, intimate performance space for the emerging artists of the UK to sculpt and hone their skills. The Alphabetti Spaghetti Theatre is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne and was created by Ali Pritchard. It is made up of a group of entertainers, consisting of scriptwriters, actors, comedians, artists and musicians.  Their ambition is to create performances that can be enjoyed by all. They strive to make theatre that is accessible and relatable to all; it will amuse and yet still leave the audience thinking at the end.  By constantly looking for new ways to challenge themselves, physically, mentally and conceptually they believethey will inevitably challenge the audience. Jowheretogo have had the pleasure of a number of fantastic nights out at this wonderful venue and can confirm that they have succeed in their noble aims.

Onto the regular Alphabetti Soup night, on the penultimate Monday of every month, which mixes a dash of comedy, a sumptuous smattering of original theatre, add some fresh slam poetry and finish of with a garnish of live music. Plus you get a free cup of soup with every ticket. damn tasty.
