Preview: Sunderland & Alnwick Park shows

Adventure awaits in Sunderland’s parks and Alnwick Castle this summer as the Plays in the Parks triple bill returns!

Audiences (sorry ‘Adventurers’) are set to be spellbound once more, as Theatre Space North East, the innovative theatre company who have been transforming Sunderland’s open spaces into 3 epic stages, return with another programme of summer events. Following the huge success of last year’s extended season which took in a trip to the magnificent Alnwick Castle, the Plays in the Parks/Plays in the Castle kicks off another blockbuster summer this July.

Our roving band of storytellers are back with a whole load of adventures for the entire family. From the epic battles of Henry IV in Roker Park, the hilarious adventures of one of Britain's most revered heroes, Robin Hood in Mowbray Park and the delightfully charming Much Ado About Nothing in Barnes Park, Expedition Control are poised to take you on unforgettable excursions through Sunderland's beautiful parks and open spaces.

Our unique brand of storytelling places you right at the heart of the action as epic battles, romance and high jinx take place all around you. Audiences are led by expedition guides throughout the grounds, as we invite you to journey on, through some of the greatest stories ever told.

Once again, intrepid adventurers won't have to loot a whole load of gold to take part, as all
Sunderland performances work on a donation basis. This means, you don't need to buy a ticket to attend and all we ask is a small donation of around £10 per person at the end of the performance to help make sure our storytellers can continue making magic for everyone.

Don't worry if you're not here for the Sunderland shows either, as our troupe will be hot-footing it north to the magnificent Alnwick Castle throughout the summer to give audiences another chance to join the adventure, this time amongst the imposing walls and vistas of Northumberland's famous landmark. Alnwick performances filled up extremely quickly last year, and as such, must be purchased in advance from www.alnwickcastle.com or in person at the Castle box office.

The 2017 season will be the first to be produced out of the all new Collective Space, the company’s creative hub, made possible through countless volunteer hours and a successful fundraising campaign backed by the late Denise Robertson. More talented local artists and performers from further afield auditioned for the season than ever before, as word spreads on the season’s popularity.
