Izzy Wizzy Let’s Get Busy

Sooty and friends are bringing The Sooty Show to DarlingtonCivic Theatre on Saturday 28 June

Sooty has been on tv since the 1950s and, according to the Guinness World Records, is the longest-running children's programme in the UK. The live show is coming to Darlington!

Izzy Wizzy let’s get busy - it’s The Sooty Show! Direct from CITV, Sooty heads into town in a fabulous new show to delight the whole family. Joining the nation’s favourite bear will be Sweep, Soo and Sooty's TV Partner Richard Cadell - who will be attempting to keep Sooty from getting up to mischief!  Boy will he have his hands full!

It's Sooty's birthday party and things aren't going to plan. Sooty and Sweep get messy baking the birthday cake and will Soo ever decide which dress to wear? Special party guests include legendary Sooty favourites Butch the bulldog and Ramsbottom the snake. So join in with all the fun and games at Sooty's birthday party!

A spectacular mix of magic, music and mess - guaranteed giggles for Sooty fans old and new!  Don't miss it!

THE RITE OF SPRING/ROMEO AND JULIET, a new form of theatre-making combining classical music and Shakespeare
Presented by Concert Theatre in association with Trestle Theatre

The latest work by Concert Theatre, a young company combining classical music and theatre in live performance, brings together pianists from the Royal Academy of Music with Lecoq-trained performers and Trestle Theatre to create an exciting reinterpretation of two great classic works.
The Rite of Spring/Romeo and Juliet is a radical interpretation of Stravinsky’s ballet and orchestral concert work in the theatrical setting of love and hatred between two Shakespeare’s rivaling households, Capulet and Montague. Conceived by Concert Theatre, the production uses commedia half masks and piano four-hands to create a music-oriented physical theatre piece through the re-telling of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy with collaborations among concert pianists from the Royal Academy of Music, actors and director from Lecoq-based system and mask specialists from Trestle Theatre.
Concert Theatre is a combination form in which classical music and drama are performed live together. Through interweaving, music becomes not just atmospheric underscore, but another language expressed by the musicians – a voice and character in its own right, spoken alongside the actors on the same stage. The two distinct works are presented side by side, to create deeper resonance and complexity of interpretation in each, and a rich complete performance.

London Classic Theatre is a middle-scale touring theatre company, committed to producing challenging, accessible drama of the highest quality. With thirty critically-acclaimed productions since their touring debut in April 2000, London Classic Theatre have established a reputation for producing bold, imaginative theatre of the highest quality. This revival of their 2003 production of the play celebrates the 50 th Anniversary of Orton’s classic black comedy.

Kath and her elderly father, Kemp, live in a house on the outskirts of a rubbish dump. Their drab existence is interrupted by the arrival of a new lodger, the enigmatic Mr Sloane. Provocative and sexually ambiguous, Sloane soon has both Kath and her brother Ed competing for his favours. But all is not as it seems. Behind Sloane’s nonchalant demeanour lies a calculating psychopath with a dark and secretive past. Seduction, blackmail and murder lie waiting in the wings.

Entertaining Mr Sloane was first staged at the Arts Theatre in London in 1964, winning the London Critics ‘Variety’ award for Best Play of the Year. Its unique blend of farce and black comedy beautifully captures the suppressed desires of the period.
Joe Orton was born in Leicester in 1933 and was battered to death by his lover, Kenneth Halliwell, in 1967. His plays include Loot, The Erpingham Camp, The Ruffian on the Stair and What the Butler Saw. This revival of our 2003 production of the play celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Orton’s classic black comedy.
