West End Operatic Society are delighted to announce they will be performing one of the all time 'Greats' of British Musicals 'Oliver' at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House 5-9 April 2016.

The search is on for boys aged 8-10 years for the part of Oliver and Artful Dodger aged 12-14 years. They also an English Bull terrier to play the part of 'Bullseye'

Budding young stars are invited to join a truly ‘Amazing’ show.  The Customs House in South Shields is holding auditions for its latest summer school.

The Mill Dam theatre's annual production will be Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Youngsters aged between eight and 18 are invited to take part in the three-week summer school which runs from July 20 to August 9.

Director Gareth Hunter said: "Every year the young people from around the region who come forward to take part astound us with their talent and enthusiasm they have for each show.  We are looking forward to meeting our new cast at auditions later this month."

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice biblical saga will be performed at The Customs House from August 7 to 9.

                

Join Jacobs’s favourite son Joseph and his 11 brothers and the coat of many colours in this unforgettable musical with a memorable score including Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door and Go, Go, Go Joseph.

Choreographer Hazel Pude

For young people wishing to take part the three week participation costs are £150 and will conclude with five performances over three days.  It will be ran by Gareth, newcomer Andrew Clarence as musical director and long-time choreographer Hazel Pude.

Hazel added: “I’m really looking forward to this year’s summer school and I’m excited to discover new talent in North East.  The fresh new production team all have strengths in many different areas of performing arts and I can’t way to share the knowledge and skills with the young people while having lots of fun.”

Auditions will take place at The Customs House from 10am on Wednesday, May 27 and application forms should be sent to Joseph Summer School, The Customs House, Mill Dam, South Shields, NE33 1ES by Friday, May 15.

ABD Productions bring Peter Pan to the Whitley Bay Playhouse from the 5th - 7th August, and are looking for performers for lead and supporting cast.

Full information:

Performers under 16 years of age need to register at 11am and those 16 and over at 1pm;  those auditioning must be prepared to stay until 6 pm. Auditionees should come in comfortable clothing, appropriate footwear and bring drinks and packed lunch. They should notbring backing tracks or prepared pieces. Recalls will be held on Saturday 30^th May.

Anne Dalton from ABD Productions is searching for lead child roles such as Tinker Bell, Michael, John Slightly and Tootles as well as a junior ensemble to play The Lost Boys (girls and boys), Indians, Pirates, Never land animals, Tinker Bell’s street dancing fairy friends, Water Sprites and Flame Dancers.

Older performers and senior dancers are invited to support the visiting adult professional company as the senior ensemble and also fill several adult character roles.  A variety of dance styles is necessary together with the ability to act and sing in ensemble.

Three junior teams of musical theatre performers and one senior team will be needed for this exciting new production. Would–be performers must check their holiday dates against show dates prior to audition. Those who are successful will be required to pay a one-off show charge of £20 plus a small sub of £1 per rehearsal to cover costs of rehearsals, tuition, lyric books, CDs, costumes etc.  There will be no other charges to take part in the production.

                                     

SHOW DATES AND REHEARSALS

 “Peter Pan” will be staged at The Playhouse, Whitley Bayduring the summer holidays, from Wednesday 5^th to Friday 7^thAugust, with matinee and evening performances each day. Tech/dress rehearsals will be held on Tuesday 4^th August.  We do not envisage that any time off school will be needed.  Rehearsals will be held mainly on Sundays plus an intensive 3 days 1^st-3^rd August prior to the production week.  Some additional rehearsal may also be called if necessary.

General Information

·        Youngsters under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult to register at 11am prompt. Adults return at 6pm unless their youngsters are unsuccessful in which case you will be telephoned earlier during the afternoon.

·        Previous auditions have taken several hours. We have known 300 youngsters arrive in the past and you will appreciate it presents difficulties for even the best run organisation to process and audition such numbers successfully. We do ask that parents/guardians are patient.

·        Please do notbring valuables to the audition. We cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage.

Nice Swan Theatre Company - a North East platform for performing arts - are bringing the legendary Broadway musical A Chorus Line to Newcastle for a strictly limited run in May.

The company, who recently produced the premiere of The Addams Family musical in the region are staging the show which is now the longest running musical in New York theatre history, breaking records, winning nine Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, the New York Critics’ Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

A Chorus Line is based on auditions for a new Broadway musical. For everyone present, it’s the chance of a lifetime. It’s the one opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed of – to have the chance to dance. Told through captivating song, riveting drama and stunning choreography, the auditionees describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The show boasts classic songs  including ‘One (Singular Sensation)’, ‘What I Did For Love’ and ‘At The Ballet’.

Local producer, Jamie Gray, from Whickham in Gateshead, is giving budding performers in the region the opportunity to perform as part of this fantastic show at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House in May 2015. Jamie, who is also Managing Director of Nice Swan Theatre Company is auditioning for musical theatre performers in January "There's so much talent here in the North East and i think it deserves to be shown off on a professional stage - I really can’t encourage people enough to get involved - this is a fantastic company to be part of, not just for the performance experience but the people are so friendly and supportive - it’s like a big family and we welcome any like-minded young performers into it. It really is amazing what it can do for you”.

Nice Swan Theatre Company are one of the most reputable theatre companies in the North East  and well known throughout the region for producing affordable high standard theatre and giving fantastic opportunities to performers age 16-30. Nice Swan are excited to be visiting the Tyne Theatre in May after it recently changed management back to the original Tyne Theatre Trust who are now in control of the grade 1 listed building on Westgate Road. "I've wanted to produce this show in Newcastle for a long time now, it's a while since its been in our area and i couldn't think of a more perfect theatre to be staging it in. The Tyne Theatre & Opera House is the oldest working Victorian theatre in the world and one of my favourite, it really fascinates me".

The show is being directed by Ben Hunt - a local director who studied at East 15 Acting School. Ben was one of the original founders of Nice Swan Theatre Company over five years ago when he directed RENT the Musical before transferring to study in London. A Chorus Line is being choreographed by Stephanie Smith also from Gateshead. Stephanie attended Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and has recently worked with stars of Strictly Come Dancing Katya Virshillas and Pasha Kovalev.

The theatre company is seen as a stepping stone for students with interests in the theatre industry whether it is singing, dancing, acting or lighting design, costume and stage management. The company works in a constant cycle where by budding performers from the North East get involved, learn, rehearse, achieve and get the experience that is required to progress further in education or into the performance industry and move on to the next step to success. "We’ve had some great success stories in recent years. Some students have gone onto professional work across the world, others are continuing their training in London. It's great to see them progress, knowing that one day they will no doubt be on the West End stage and we helped them by giving that 'stepping stone'."
